My Rhinebeck, NY clients had a bad experience in the past, which left them nervous about engaging in another project. This is a very common theme and not one that is without it’s challenges. When trust is broken, it’s hard to let your guard down again. Trusting someone to do the right thing the next time becomes difficult.
Luckily, our Comprehensive Project Evaluation (or CPE) process at DBS Remodel allows us to walk through the project details. We build trust without requiring a huge monetary investment or obligation to contract us. This helped my clients feel more confident that we were the company to do the job.

My clients had a smallish powder room on their first floor that guests use when they entertain. While the original space wasn’t terribly outdated, it wasn’t what they wanted. They also have cats. They were looking for a solution to hide the kitty litter from guests when they arrive.

The closet in the space wasn’t ideal. They had relocated the washer and dryer shortly after moving in. This project ideally would make the space more useful and much more elegant.

We discussed adding a tile accent wall to create a higher end feel in the space.

Adding cabinetry was a simple way to hide storage items necessary for the kitties. My original idea was to create a cubby under a countertop area. This would allow for the kitty litter. My clients also saw this as a possible changing table area. Ultimately the design evolved and the cabinets became

Even in a small bathroom, there are still a lot of small details that could easily become an issue. The homeowners had underfloor hydronic heat. During demolition, it was critical to take care when removing or repairing the subfloor.

We closed up the dryer vent and re-insulated the walls. Blocking was installed for the cabinetry.

Once sheetrock was hung and taped, we arranged for a first coat of paint. The floor tile is installed over an uncoupling membrane to ensure the subfloor is protected.

The tile is beautiful and has a handmade feel with color variation. A textured deco tile is mixed within to create visual interest. My clients also chose a grout color to match the tile to create a subtle look that feels understated.

The homeowners decided to color drench and paint the mouldings the same color as the walls. This touch lets the cabinetry and the tile be the focal points.

A simple quartz top shines against the brushed bronze fixtures.

A tambour door gives them the option to hide away the kitty litter when entertaining. They can have it open for daily living. This project is almost complete – Stay tuned for final photos!
