Removing Barriers for Kitchen Entertaining

Not every project or client is the same. Anyone who knows me – knows that I love my clients’ fur-babies almost as much as I do them. (maybe even more – shhhh!) This kitchen project in Stanfordville, NY has been full of giant paws and cuddles from the start. It’s been such a pleasure to stop in, see the transformation, and get a little luv from my buddy here.

My client loves to entertain and host with family and friends and her kitchen just did not go the distance. She has amazing views on her property – but the kitchen and dining room felt dark, outdated, and tight.

During gatherings, people tended to congregate outside. Others huddled in corners. She was looking for help and advice on how to make the outside and inside of her home feel cohesive.

She was considering opening up the wall between her dining room and the kitchen and I instantly loved the idea! It would allow for more light in her kitchen and for better traffic flow. We decided to start with moving the wall and brought in our architect to see what was possible.

Like most of us, my client had a budget and the main concern was sticking to it. She picked a lovely blue cabinet and we toyed with the idea of a working island and seating area.

We knew that the new floor plan would create the entertaining area she wanted. After some revisions to the cabinetry layout, we managed to create a kitchen design that worked for the end goal. We removed the wall and stayed within the budget range she planned for.

The finished design considered the project’s unique features. These include the wood trim and the grandmother clock, which is a family heirloom.

Demo day revealed the impact of the wall removal right away. As soon as I walked back into the space – I felt the shift in the light. Both my client and I felt giddy! I knew then it was a game-changer.

Small decisions were also made on the fly. When the wall was removed – my client felt concerned about the loss of an outlet. Likely the spot for her Christmas tree, we found a way to make an outlet available only when necessary!

This project turned out amazing and I can’t wait for the final pictures!

Our Lead Carpenter Greg made a bespoke top to modify a piece of furniture to a coffee bar! It’s going to look wonderful once everything is in place. More photos coming soon!
